Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Nutmeg recipe

These wonderfully different gnocchi dumplings are sweet yet savoury and perfect for pairing with a butter or cream cheese sauce. They're super simple to make, too.

  • 500g sweet potatoes, unpeeled
  • 250g plain flour
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 egg

  1. Heat the oven to 180C and put the sweet potatoes into the oven. Roast for 30 minutes or until tender, then remove from the oven and leave to cool until they are cold enough for you to handle them.

  2. Remove the peel, then mash until soft in a bowl with the minced garlic clove, salt, nutmeg and egg. Once smooth, add flour until you have a smooth dough.

  3. Roll the dough out using any excess flour into long thin sausages. Cut the sausages into 3cm chunks, then press with the back of a fork. Cook in boiling salted water until they rise to the top of the pot.

These gnocchi would also be delicious with some sage butter or even some red pesto. This recipe serves 2-3.
