Sweet Vanilla Gnocchi recipe

This tasty gnocchi dish is a great alternative to the usual savoury gnocchi dishes - serve with a little chocolate sauce or maple syrup for a wonderful Italian dessert.


  • 950ml milk
  • 250g semolina
  • 8 egg yolks
  • 4 tbsp. caster sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract


  1. Mix all ingredients in a saucepan, whisking constantly until the mixture begins to stiffen up. Continue cooking until after the mixture has stiffened, for a couple of minutes. Cook on a medium high heat.

  2. Pour the gnocchi out into a greased baking dish, then leave to cool.

  3. Once cool, cut into squares. To heat, place the squares onto a baking tray and then dot with bits of butter. Cook for 5-10 minutes in a 180C oven until heated through.

If you prefer, dust your hands with rice flour and then form the gnocchi into small balls by rolling between your hands. This recipe serves four.
